TrollWall AI, an AI platform – AI agents for automatic moderation of toxic and hateful comments on social media with human-level accuracy, is acquiring the Slovak startup Elv.ai. TrollWall AI is used in 17 countries, including by several heads of state, sports organizations, brands and Europe's largest political parties. Elv.ai's clients among media outlets and public institutions in Slovakia and the Czech Republic are moving to the TrollWall AI platform. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of Elv.ai is part of our strategy to expand and consolidate the market. Elv.ai has built a strong name in Slovakia, and we value that its clients are moving over to us. They will get stable, proven comment moderation technology, along with advanced tools that analyze comments and draft replies to them,” says Tomáš Halász, co-founder and CEO of TrollWall AI. The acquisition comes six months after TrollWall AI raised an investment of €800,000.
The TrollWall AI platform automatically hides toxic comments on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, around the clock and in 20 languages. Beyond moderation, it analyzes the content and sentiment of comments, helps teams respond to them, and protects brands from hateful and toxic content as well as spam. Through TrollWall AI MCP, clients can moderate their comments directly in Claude or ChatGPT.
TrollWall AI's clients include the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), AC Sparta Praha, Ringier, RTL Hrvatska, O2 and the Czech Police. TrollWall AI has become the first choice for political parties in Europe.
The company was founded in 2022 by Tomáš Halász, Filip Strýčko, Tomáš Koctúr and Pavol Bujňák. The idea came after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, when Halász, then community manager for a Vice-President of the European Parliament, had to moderate thousands of toxic comments by hand every day. He went on to develop automated detection with his co-founders.
From elves to TrollWall AI
Elv.ai began in 2022 as Elfovia.sk, a non-profit project at the communications agency New School Communications, in response to a wave of hate, hoaxes and disinformation on social media. Volunteer moderators, known as “elves,” first cleaned up the comment sections of media outlets and institutions by hand. From December 2022 they worked in a hybrid model with artificial intelligence.
Driven by fast-growing demand, the project spun off from the agency in 2023 as a standalone startup. It was founded by Gabriel Tóth and Ľudovít Ďurman of New School Communications, Jakub Šuster, who became the company's CEO, and investors Milan Dubec and CB ESPRI Impact One. According to company figures, Elv.ai protected hundreds of social media profiles and reviewed more than 80 million comments.
“The sale of Elv.ai continues the story of the elves project, which we launched at New School Communications after Russian troops invaded Ukraine. From the very start, we felt how important it is to keep social media clear of hate and disinformation. That makes me all the more pleased that TrollWall AI will carry this mission forward,” says Gabriel Tóth, co-founder of Elv.ai and CEO of New School Communications.
“Safe online discussion is the value our whole company is built on. Comment sections are where people form their views of brands and politicians today, and anyone who doesn't keep them under control lets others decide their reputation. If we have technology that can protect people, we have a duty to use it wherever people talk to each other. Our goal is for TrollWall AI to become the global leader in comment moderation. That is why we are expanding in Europe and the US, and the acquisition of Elv.ai is one step on that path,” adds Tomáš Halász.
